Well, it is a lot more than crafts, games and outdoor skills. All of the Cub Scout programs in which you and your child will participate are carefully designed to teach your child something they will use throughout their life. Here are just a few of the things your child will gain through Cub Scouting-
A feeling of belonging to a positive and fun group of peers and caring adults.
New social skills that will help him/her get along with others.
Develop new mental skills from reading and writing, to planning and organizing.
A greater understanding of other people and the world around them.
A system of “values” that will help them grow and make good decisions.
A concern and caring for people, and even opportunities to help others.
Self-confidence & stronger self-esteem. A deeper relationship with the family and the family’s spiritual foundation
We are based out of:
Yorba Linda United Methodist Church
Pack meetings: 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm.
Den meetings (Individual grade levels): 3rd Tuesday of each month, times vary depending on grade level. Usually between 6-7:30pm
*pack & den meetings run about an hour long
Parent Meetings: 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm (zoom option available)
Our “scout year” starts about mid-August with monthly den & pack meetings. The “scout year” will end in May/June with a bridging ceremony where the scouts will get their new rank and any last awards for the year. There will be plenty of events in summer but no reoccurring meet ups as a den/pack. The summer events are not required but worthwhile if your schedule allows it.
Scouts are assigned to a den based on grade level. Den meetings are focused primarily on games and activities related to gaining their achievements towards their next rank. This is where scouts earn their belt loops & pins by completing requirements for each Adventure.
DENS
Lion (Kindergarten) Tiger (First Grade)
Wolf (Second Grade) Bear (Third Grade)
Webelos (Fourth Grade) Arrow of Light (Fifth Grade)
A pack is the larger unit made up of all the dens. Pack meetings include games, crafts, STEM activities, and presentations of achievements (belt loops, pins and patches) that scouts earned during that month.
The pack, including families, also participates in other events throughout the year, including:
Pinewood Derby—You can build and race a model car with your child.
Camping—Overnight and day camp opportunities introduce your family to the camping experience.
Service projects—Packs may participate in food drives, conservation projects, or other community activities.
Special outings—hikes, museum trips, movie nights, etc.
Pack 580 strives to make scouting the lowest cost experience possible! Currently our pack does not charge monthly dues. However, there is an annual Boy Scouts of America membership fee which is approximately $165 per year.
Additional costs include:
Class A uniforms: shirts are currently $33 and uniform convertible shorts/pants (optional) are currently $33
Class B shirts (optional) ~$10 kids ~$12 adults
Handbook- Lion & Tiger $12.99, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, Arrow of Light $23.99.
Individual Activity Charges: Some events may require payment to participate such as overnight campouts, sporting events, etc. Approximate costs will be announced ahead of the event.
Pack 580 participates in 2-3 fundraisers a year. There are no minimums, we just ask that the scouts do their best. These fundraisers allow us to pay for supplies for den/pack meetings and to purchase awards given to scouts.
